3 jaw Chuck

The three jaw chuck is the easier of the two to use. It is self centering, and only one screw needs to be tightened for this to work. This is the primary choice for early machining, where a center has yet to be established, as there is no point in spending time carefully centering a piece of metal that is still rough. Round, Triangular, or Hexagonal stock can be used. It is not suggested to use square stock because a good grip cannot be established. The jaws can be taken out, either back backing out the entire way, or screwing off from the face, and flipped around in order to change the capacity of the chuck, or for holding tubes from the inside
