RISDpedia In A Few Hundred Words
RISDpedia is a collaborative website who serves to document all the products and materials used by artists and designers. Imagine if you looked up epoxy on wikipedia and, instead of finding information about the chemicals that are used to make it, there was a list of all the different epoxies available, with full information on each of them: how to use them, what they work with, what they don't work with, etc.
That is RISDpedia.
On RISDpedia, you will also find articles on how to work with materials. Need to know how to properly sand wood? It's in there. What about information on gouache? Yeah, we cover that. We know that some products are very similar to each other, but we also know that "similar" does not mean "the same," so each product gets entered separately.
With RISDpedia you can know before you buy if a product or material will work, and that information will save you time and money.
How can I help?
Right now, RISDpedia is small, with information about approximately 300 products and 20 articles. One student has done 99% of this work. We are not asking you to spend a lot of time editing or adding to articles. We are asking for quick edits that will take just a few minutes of your time, just here and there. But together they will add up to an invaluable resource for all RISD students.
