General Overview

Accoya wood is a "new wood species" which utilizes acetylation, a natural process of pressure treating wood using acetic acid instead of harmful and toxic chemicals. The process of acetylation changes the cell structure of the wood from hydroxyl groups to acetyl groups. This change greatly reduces the ability of the wood to absorb water, making the wood more dimensional stable. This process also makes the wood indigestable to enzymes, fungi, and insects, which, a long with water, are the leading causes of decay in wood. Since the wood is protected against this deteriaration, it is much more durable. Wood acetylation is a process which has been researched and tested by scientists around the world for over 75 years. Accoya wood has been tested and proven to have superior performance and properties that match those of the best tropical hardwoods. Accoya wood is also regulated and certified to come from sustainably managed forests.
