Blowing Glass
From RISDpedia
Blowing Glass:
This is a relatively simple idea (manipulate glass in a molten state) executed in a very difficult manner. The basic techniques are centered around the basics of centrifugal motion. To start, all clear glass to be used for blowing is kept in the hot shop furnace. Some studios will have pots of color in separate furnaces mainly for production work. Anyway, to begin heat up a metal rod to a temperature so that glass will stick to it, then dip it in the furnace. You will notice quickly the glass cools and the necessity of turning to keep it on center.
