[edit] Pricing Parts

Here are steps needed to price your models for 3d printing at brown.


  1. Save the Part as an STL (90% of the time for rapid prototyping)
  2. Click options
  3. Put the Part in a folder name wuth your name and revision IE ( Donny Appleseed Rev1 )
  4. Rename file that as well.

[edit] In the software

Open the part file by going to: file -> open. look for part and open it (let it convert to mm if needed.)


scarce the file -This will hollow out the part and save you money

parts that are shorter in height are cheaper do you can rotate the part to be as short as possible by going to the stl menu and select stl rotate

Click on green flag

Click on "view all layers" (bunch of horizontal lines)

Select file, then click build

Write down

  • model material (cubic inches)
  • Support materials (Cubic inches)
  • Total time est
