Rabbet Plane

Anyone who has taken even a basic woodworking course understands the importance of a reference surface. Without two reference surfaces, it is incredibly difficult to lay out and manage the efficient use of material. While some may not have access to such tools as a power jointer, this small plane may do the trick. with a fixed 90 degree body. it allows the top edge of the plane to ride on the one flat side that you have created (likely with a #4, #5 or higher handplane) while the side of your material is cleanly shaven away. Kept sharp and finely tuned, this plane can take whispers off of your stock. the only downfall is that the blade capacity only allows for a material thickness of less than 7/8". It may not be the first tool I would encourage a young builder to purchase, but definitely a useful one.
